September 2025: Celebrating Connection and Renewal

Jimi Psarakis, Development Director at Bacoa

A NOTE FROM BACOA’S DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

As summer winds down and we welcome September, I’m reminded of how important it is to celebrate both connection and renewal. This month is recognized nationally as Healthy Aging Month and Senior Center Month, two themes that resonate deeply with Bacoa’s mission. While we don’t operate a traditional senior center, Bacoa carries the same spirit. Through our programs whether it’s caregiver support, our day programs, meals delivered to neighbors, or social gatherings, we create the kinds of connections that keep people engaged, supported, and thriving. Every day, I see the difference these moments make: a shared laugh during a group outing, the relief of a caregiver who feels heard, or the joy of a meal delivered with kindness. Together, these experiences form a community where older adults and families know they belong.

As we look ahead to the fall, I’m excited about opportunities like Mid Mod Barrington and our ongoing workshops and groups, chances for all of us to strengthen Bacoa’s impact. Thank you for walking alongside us and helping make this community of care possible.

With gratitude,

Jimi Psarakis
Bacoa Development Director

Visible in the Community
This summer, Bacoa’s presence could be felt throughout the community—at festivals, neighborhood events, and special gatherings. Behind every tent set up, every friendly conversation, and every welcoming smile were our incredible volunteers.

All Ages, One Mission
From longtime supporters to first-time helpers, staff members and from families to individuals of all ages, these volunteers showed what community in action looks like. They gave their time not only to support Bacoa, but also to connect with neighbors, share our mission, and invite others to get involved.

Moments That Matter
Volunteering with Bacoa isn’t just about service—it’s about creating moments of connection. Whether it’s helping us at a community booth, supporting a program, or delivering meals, each act of generosity strengthens the fabric of care that holds our community together.

Gratitude for Our Volunteers
We’re grateful for every person who shows up, rolls up their sleeves, and makes Bacoa’s mission visible in the heart of our community. Thank you for being the reason we can continue to grow, reach more people, and ensure older adults and caregivers feel seen and supported.

Bacoa’s Day in Bloom: Exploring the Chicago Botanic Garden

Our group enjoyed a day surrounded by beauty at the Chicago Botanic Garden, where vibrant blooms and peaceful pathways offered the perfect setting for connection and discovery. From exploring colorful gardens to soaking in the late-summer scenery, it was a chance to slow down, share conversations, and take in the wonder of nature together. We ended the outing with a delicious lunch at Demetri’s in Deerfield, where good food and laughter rounded out the day. Moments like these remind us that community is built not only through support and care, but also through shared experiences of joy and renewal.
